U.S. Department of Energy Enters the Race…
The DoE is putting $40 million toward quantum computing algorithm development which will solve complex problems using quantum computers; problems which classical computing cannot solve. Particle physics and nuclear physics are among several focus areas for the department’s quantum computing initiative which is roughly 18% of the U.S. government’s total quantum computing expenditures per year.
